H2: Future Fuel

A bus that is powered by hydrogen? Find out about it at H2: Future Fuel. The fuels that we currently use, such as oil and gas, are running out and they are bad for the environment. This is why scientists are researching a new, clean fuel: hydrogen. You can find out more at H2: Future Fuel, an exhibition organised by NEMO and Shell Nederland BV.

We consume a lot of energy. Not just to run cars and aeroplanes, but also to heat and light our houses. We can’t function without energy. Most of it currently comes from fossil fuels, such as oil and gas, but the reserves are limited and will eventually run out. In addition, fossil fuels are bad for the environment.

We need to take action and hydrogen could be the solution. Hydrogen is the smallest but also the most abundant atom in the universe. At least 90% of all atoms are hydrogen. When it burns, energy and clean water are released. Nothing else. So why are we using hydrogen so little? Because the technology to store and burn hydrogen needs to be developed further.

At H2: Future Fuel discover what hydrogen is and make it yourself! You can then use it to power a bus. You will also find out how much oil there still is, what we use energy for and which countries need the most energy.

You can find out more about energy at NEMO by visiting Light Moving Objects or Water Power. We also have lesson materials available for schools. In addition, you can visit the Naturalis or Kennislink websites (both Dutch).
